Faisa was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. Her family fled Somalia’s devastating civil war to seek refuge in Kenya. They immigrated to The United States in 1995. Faisa grew up in San Diego, California, and Rochester, Minnesota. She made a career change to nursing after receiving exceptional care from wonderful nurses in 2011. Faisa recognized the lack of diversity, racial and ethnic disparities persisting in health care working as a labor and delivery nurse. She became a midwife to represent the community she serves. She has worked at Minnesota Community Care since 2019. Faisa cares for women across the lifespan, with a special interest in obstetrics, gynecology, health promotion, and family planning.
Faisa speaks Somali and works in partnership with women to provide woman-centered care. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, playing basketball, and cooking authentic recipes from around the world.
